Our Founder’s Story

Traveling at a Young Age
I was born in Cartagena, Colombia. From the time I was a little boy, my family was often traveling. My father was in the Colombian Navy, and as a result, we had to move from one location to another constantly. We traveled from Colombia to various destinations in the United States and eventually came back to Colombia.
After retiring from the Navy, my father took a position with a British Company, and we moved to Cuba. My family left Cuba in 1960 and moved to Key Biscayne, FL. By then, I was in my teens and had been in countless schools.
The Beginning of a Career in Travel and Tourism
Because of my experiences, I learned to appreciate different types of people and their backgrounds. I took a part-time job while in high school in a travel agency that had just opened in Key Biscayne, and that was the beginning of a new world for me. After I completed college and my service in the US Navy Submarine Service, I went back to the travel agency and began my long career as a travel consultant.
A Passion for Exploring Africa
One of my very first “fam” trips was to Africa in the mid-‘70s, and that ignited my love for Africa and everything associated with animals! I believe that once you visit Africa, the experience stays with you always, and that’s how it’s been for me. I have traveled to numerous countries in Africa countless times. Each trip is better than the next, and I never get tired of seeing the beauty of Africa and its people.
An Expert in African Excursions
I have specialized in sending family groups to Africa in the last few years and have been so fortunate to have the fabulous assistance and expert guidance of andBeyond and their professional staff in Africa. Now, they have expanded to new destinations in South America, India, and Bhutan, adding to their collection of places to go to.
